Hero iteration 4 progressI spent most of the day working on the level editor for Hero, now you can position Enemies in the dungeons. Now I need to be able to place crates, they are totally random now... And maybe decorate the dungeons with some destructible furniture... I kind of like the idea that you hack yourself through obstacles...
Iteration 4, dungeon with outdoors starting location
More progress on that editor, I can now place crates and set the direction of enemies (very important since you might want to back stab those bastards!).
I also added a outdoors starting location tile, that can be placed in editor so you don't have to start outdoors levels next to a staircase...
In-game editor
It might be interesting to know that the editor is built in the same project as the game, so I can just swap between the editor and game play, directly test what I just changed, this leads to drastically shorter turnaround time... Another advantage for me is that since the game and editor shares so much code I can create the editor as just another view that uses the game view for drawing the level and just add some special drawing code for the editor specific things...
Furniture will come in future iterations
I have also made of list of destructible furniture and things you might find in a level, I have graphics for it but I will add them in a later iteration... The idea is that most things should affect game play and not just for show... Like beds you can rest in or pots of food you can eat from to regain health. I also got some graphics for a dungeon gym, so you might find things you can get XP-points on strength...
Other progress
I have also done some progress on dialogs, so you can speak with people like in other rpg´s... One thing that came up when I tested them is that I realized how hard it is to write good and interesting dialog, but I guess will write it and try to get some feedback to improve it, no fear!
mmmh dungeon food... shouldn't that drain your health Could be an interesting option... that you could get "sick" from the food sometimes... like traps in crates...
Lookin' like the game is comin' along just great! Considering the amount of time you got on yer hands this stuff getting fixed more quickly than I could imagine!
Will be a treat to start workin' on some new items soon, I'm back in the ole swamp again so just give me an hollar and I'll get right to it!
Looks great!
Tasty textures, keep it up!

"you can't stop the change"
man I'd love to see them
man I'd love to see them textures with some bumps
Yes, I will use bump mapping
Yes, I will use bump mapping and funky shading, but you will have to wait a iteration or two...
Now priority is to get a working quest with maps and monsters for Iteration 4.
