New user interface in Hero


Another two weeks have passed and another release of Hero is on Spell of Play hUb. During this iteration I have rewritten large parts of the codebase but I also focused on the feedback from previous releases. A number of smaller issues have been resolved like the bug where a spear shoots arrows Smiling.
I have also started to work on a new user interface. It is smaller and should not block the players view.

Now Play Hero on hUb!

I didn't understand the Rest function, and after the first time I used it it didn't work anymore.

I got ambushed at home, and the main problem was that I was on the edge of the map and happened to accidentally leave the map while fighting. I don't really know how you would fix this though...

I really really dislike the fact that you can scroll the screen with the mouse cursor at the edges. Shouldn't the camera just be fixed to the player?

I survived for quite a bit longer than last iteration, probably in large part due to the random encounters which eventually gave me gold which gave me health.

One problem with the random encounters is the presentation; all of a sudden you switch from map to level view when running around, and it feels kind of jarring. Also, many times you start an encounter with no enemies on screen, which kind of feels weird.

Items are still kind of hard to see without using CTRL.

I don't like the fact that there are several different guys to shop from in Pale Village, and that they all have different stuff. It feels like an unnecessary step to run around trying to figure out if anyone has any stuff that you might want.

The game got stuck after a while on a random encounter, I couldn't move or do anything. I suspect that I may have spawned inside a stone pillar, but I'm not sure, it was kind of hard to determine visually.

edit: Running the game again and choosing Continue has me still stuck. Is there a savegame file or something that I could send to you for debugging purposes?

yes my guess is also you got stuck on a pillar but you should be able see your outline anyway?, just zip your playerdatai12 folder and send it to me...

Rest should work if no enemies are on the screen... might be some weird spawning on some ares...

When you have zipped ur game you probably can continue using your autosaved game...

New Wall of Text/Test

I've noticed that cloth equipment appears in your inventory on a new game, unfortunately it isn't automatically equipped. Though I suspect that might be because there'll be a tutorial or splash screen that tells you (how) to do that in the future, once the core game mechanics are finalised. So I don't know if thats intended or not.

Theres some text at the bottom of the inventory screen thats being obscured by the interface. The inventory screen prevents scrolling around on the area map as well.

The broken sword broke very quickly, wondering if its really worth having that as the objective for your first quest since it may not last long enough for you to get a better weapon.

A conversation with Count Iwan left me wondering if there should be attribute checks in the game for different situations, for instance after the count says "I don't think the magical protections will be triggered by your innocent mind." and you have 4 INT or more then an additional dialogue option might pop up like "Why? Isn't your mind innocent enough?"

Think it might be worth making first aid automatic if the button is depressed, though in saying that I think I'm misunderstanding that the depressed state means it can't be used at this time.

Glad to see the weapon broken notice pops up above character, that really helps.

I clicked on and opened a hidden door by mistake, the player char then spotted it later on, after it was already open.

The selection of armour/clothing in the shop in pale village seems rather arbitrary and random, he'd probably have a better selection on sale for passing travellers/foolsie adventurers ("Fools are a dime a dozen nowadays, chasin' after Dragons and getting themselves roasted like beans in a pot. Make a pretty penny on the armour mind you, not my fault if they don't know when to stay out of harms way..." Eye-wink ). Could possibly have quest(s) that'll add items to the shop keepers inventory if you do a task for him.

I've been abusing the infinite arrows in the game quite badly, running ahead of any monsters firing off arrows at little risk to myself, I suppose thats just because all I've really fought so far is slow undead and slow ogres.

If you try pressing the rest button whilst in a combat state theres no message or notification of any sort explaining why the rest interface isn't displaying.

Actually, thats all I've got really as far as feedback goes for today.
