New version of hero is up on the hub:

changes are:

* Towers are now one room with a boss.
* Monsters are activated by line of sight
* Encounters on map (ambushes)

After some testing I did not think 3D was right for the game Smiling
So I have started working on a isometric view for Hero...

I need to reeorder how things are drawn and I think we should use autotiles for the floor and walls like in the old version

We can prerender the grunts above and use them! Laughing out loud

Im doing a simplification of hero and try to identify how the game is played and should be played. Basically I want to remove everything that you dont use, is not interesting or too complex.

So far I have removed:
* body parts (only one armor type)
* Dexterity

Im thinking of removing
* Shops, Smithy and temples, right now I dont use them, maybe different on hand made map
* Weapon types, only have shurikens and katanas of different types
* Enemies dont have different weapons.
* map (replaced by zoom)

Im thinking of adding
* repairkits for armor and weapons
* LMB use katana, pick up and open, RMB throw shuriken
* Shurikens
* Scroll and zoom
* hand made map (not autogenerated uninteresting islands like now) and more PQuest like progress on map (unlocking areas by finishing levels)

Any ideas?

I think the game should autoscroll to keep the hero in focus. Why would you want to scroll since you have the map?

the main reason for scrolling is that you can have bigger rooms... Puzzled well we will test it and accept-reject-change... Sticking out tongue

Weapons are just differnt specs like in World of warcraft. But it has considerable impact to have different speced weapons with different names.

Just increase/decrease damage output. That's about what you need and a shit load of names Smiling

I agree, but if the player should be able to make interesting choices every weapon should also have some drawbacks...

Just noticed that Hero has been updated Smiling

About the "map" in the game; I think that it should scroll to follow the player / keep the player centered on the screen. Right now it is possible to scroll away and not see the player at all.

Is there/will there be any point of the "fog of war?" I tend to just find it annoying...

Well I like fog!

I think the main point of fog of war is the feeling of exploration. When you remove FOW you feel instant progress.
For me it becomes like a mini game to clean it up and to find new locations...

The map-game will be quest driven in the future and you will need to find paths to the quest locations by exploring. My plan is that you can buy or find ships (like in CPQ) and explore remote islands and rivers...

But right now my main focus is on dungeon game mechanics, since you are going to spend most of your time in dungeons. I think the map and quests should be two things:

  1. A relaxing "happy" place between dark dungeons
  2. Driving force for finding and exploring new dungeons

I find that the availability of potions, weapons, armor, etc in relation to the enemies in the beginning of the game is wrong. I tend to die very often, and there isn't very much I can do about it.

Also I think that items tend to break very easily.

Performance is also very bad, when the screen is covered with graphics (I have explored most of the dungeon) I'm down to about 5 fps (if the counter at the bottom left is to be trusted).

yes, I have just done a refactoring on items, and it will result in less randomized behavior (in the future).

That performance is weird, did you not have dual-core?
What kind of GPU do you have?
Maybe not that weird, I do ray trace the dynamic lighting in another thread...

Well the weapons have different drawbacks now.
Current drawbacks:
1. Some take longer time to use than others
2. Some are harder to use than others

The required level of the items are set depending on the features and drawback´s
