You can play all our pc games just by downloading and installing hUb!
Argh, the problems I've had programming on Vista 64... :(

I just worked on a fix for this, might work or not... I haven't got a testbed for it I guess I will have to wait until the release on friday!

hi guys!
i finally got stable internets and so updated Hero to her latest iteration. exciting welcome screens greet me so i registered my order and got ready to play. it loaded great and saw awesome changes like instructions for stats and good ol' dad character is now highlighted with a mission exclamation mark on him. all seems well until i clicked on the first door to enter. hero just froze and gave me the following screenshot.

is it just me? cause i wanna play :}
should i copypaste the entire hero.log for you?
the only error i could find was on line 63.
dxrnd::Effect::Process : Could not find valid technique in data\effects\world.fx
hope that's enough info for you to start the fix. unless it's my comp. i'm running on windows xp pro.
by the way, i still can't play project L :/ keeps giving me this screenshot.

Could you please try the following:
Start the game again, go directly to options from menu, click on windowed.
When the game is loaded again in windowed mode.. just start a new game and wait a few 2-3 minutes and see if it crashes even if you don't click anywhere...
If it does not crash after a few minutes try clicking on the door...
It would also be helpful to know your graphics card type...

the windowed mode didn't help. when i clicked on a new game, it still crashed with the same error without me touching anything.
my gfx card is a crappy laptop one Intel(R) 915GM/GMS,910GML Express Chipset.

My guess Is that I use to much GPU-memory or its the shaders...
And if you enter options, select
1. Fallback shader (is it preselected on your card?)
And if that does not work try:
1. Very small dynamic shadow quality
2. Hide Background Landscape
3. Fallback shader
4. 800 * 600

I got the exact gpu (intel 915GM/GMS, 910GML Express Chipset) on my WinXP eeepc. I actually got Hero "working" on it using windowed mode and 800x480 resolution (manually changed the view settings file)
The map graphics works fine.
The "in level" graphics is very messed up
Large portions of the tiles seem to be missing, misplaced (especially indoors). Outdoors characters are rendered using the outline, indoors you get to see the character occasionally. There are no props rendered at all.
On TWTPB i had some troubles with this gpu also, most of the problem came from the fact that it was very picky with having the exact correct vertices/primitives counts.
There could definitely be driver differences making the game crash on shi's machine because of this...
