Car upgrades and other thoughts

I've been playing Roadclub for several hours now (still think it's great!), and got some questions and feedback.

[list]First of all I wonder about car upgrades. I find it hard to know which upgrades and features makes the car increase one level. Sometimes it seems like I'm able to upgrade a level 1 car a lot, but other times I barely can upgrade it at all keeping it as level 1. Is there some kind of point system?

I also think some of the features might need some more technical explanation to make them easier to understand, and how to compare them to upgrades with similar attributes (For example, which would be most cost effective between a weight reduction upgrade vs. weight reduced feature).

What does the sports and racing transmissions and the rearend ratio on the racing transmission do? I bet a lot of car enthusiasts know what it does, but unfortunately I'm not one of them Eye-wink

The weekend cup is playable only until you won it, then it disappears. However you can keep on playing it if you finish place 2 and below?

At one point I attended a challenge with a huge bet, like $50000 or so. However, when I won the race I didn't get any prize money, just some experience points and a message that stated "The challenge could not be found". When trying to attend another challenge I didn't have enough money, the bet was $1.0554394e+009 Smiling

I'm not sure about how to read the fastest track highscores. If you challenge or practise race a track, the lap time and track time will be same if there is only one lap in those. When racing in leages featuring multiple laps the track record will already be beaten by several minutes. Perhaps the track records should be grouped by lap count somehow or league/practise in order to actually compare times?[/list:u]

thanks a lot for playing so much! it really helps to receive feedback from someone getting into the game more deeply.

there kinda is. the car has an internal rating and upgrading the attributes increase this rating differently. engine increases the rating most, and body least. handling, nitro and weight reduction increases it moderately and braking very little also. I can see how this needs to be shown more visually or explained somewhere.

good question. here actually showing what the resulting weight would be when you purchase either one would help I think.

actually I bet even they won't since we invented their effect. Well they could probably make a qualified guess. What they do is add another gear if you don't already have the 6-speed and they trim the gear ratios a bit for faster acceleration and top speed. racing does this better of course and adds the ability to change the rearend ratio. what that does is giving you the power to control the acceleration/top speed ratio. higher number gives better acceleration. I believe this is explained if you hover over the buttons?

True, this is a once-only cup. it means its an achievment that you won it and it can be crossed off the list of these. we're not sure if these leagues are a good gameplay element yet. I'm planning to make kind of a trophy room screen where you can see all leagues you've won so far.

these sounds like major bugs. we'll have to look into that.

the tracks have a record laps amount set which means the track record will only be stored if you race that amount of laps.. this isn't too well explained either. I can see how its confusing.

thanks for your feedback and thanks again for playing! we'll keep your observations in mind and try to make things more clear in the next update. feel free to ask anything else that comes to your mind about the game.

Thanks for your answers, I'll play around a bit with the rearend ratios Smiling

Another question about gears, is there any difference between manual/automatic, apart from the fact that you have to press the keys yourself of course? Smiling I remember a racing game I used to play in the old days called Ignition, where you could switch to manual gear handling which increased your top speed to compensate the increased difficulty.

heh LOVED ignition. I'd like to believe it inspired this game in some way. no there is no difference except that it gives you more control to accelerate att better times, do donuts, limosine turns and other fun stuff Smiling

I remember ignition, pretty fun for a racing game without weapons. What happened to UDS? Last game I can remember is airfix dogfighter and that’s from 1999 or something.

So... what about adding weapons to the vehicles Laughing out loud

yeah I followed them for a while looking for the next game but I think they was bought or went bankrupt and the people went to other studios.

we decided early on that we didn't just wanna be a death rally copy. this game is about the club feeling and racing in the league format. weapons are fun but doesn't fit what we wanted to do with this game. our next game however...

Come on, one little machine gun never killed anyone Eye-wink

hehe only maybe one or two people. well sorry to disappoint but we're done with the game features, there's only bug fixes left. we might add some community features for uploading highscores and sharing user content but thats it.

you can always play another death rally round or try Mexican Motor Mafia Smiling
