Roadclub level editor

Hi

It would be nice if you could tell me the basics of creating levels...

my level was lost when I reloaded the game, and it was saved since I could test it?

Do you have any plans for user-created content downloads?

we will make a document or webpage that will explain this. the editor is really lacking info at the moment. we could make an intro sticky here as well. I'll put something up tonight. until then you can press F1 to see the available commands in-editor or look around in the toolbar (hover at the bottom of the screen)

the really short story is that you need to paint ground, place objects, place waypoints for the AI and triggers to control cheating and laps (the last trigger is the finish line, all other triggers must be passed in sequence for the lap to count).

we'd love to build a user content community somehow but haven't gotten very far in those plans. we don't know how popular the game will be yet. the game is made so it should be easy to add tilesets, objects, cars and everything else to make your own full leagues and export them for anyone to download.

that problem sounds weird. we've never had any trouble saving maps and reloading the game. is the map file in the maps folder? did you check "lock" when you saved?

hm there is a map called demo in the folder, and when I restarted it was in the game... maybe I just missed it

Gr8 now I have my first working map... It was pretty easy to understand the basic editing, some glitches like the brush size resets if you have locked the toolbar...

We have a ongoing discussion regarding user-created content and we want to create a upload/download service, might be gr8 for Roadclub to!

heh well let us know if it happens again.

great to hear that you understood without any help!

I'll take some time to make stickys that explains things and gives some tips soon.

oo that sounds awesome! would be perfect for us. keep us updated Smiling

Yesterday I made a straight track drag race style to test acceleration and top speed ratios for my cars. When I tested the track with opponents I noticed they got far behind, apparently the opponent cars slowed down when reaching a waypoint (or perhaps a trigger, I'm not sure), so they never drove at top speed, at least not for very long. Is there any way of getting around this behaviour?

triggers does not affect their driving at all. it only makes sure you don't cheat and counts laps.

they should only slow down if it is foggy or the waypoints turn. if they all are in a straight line they should max it out.

turning works like this. they check sets of 3 waypoints ahead if the 3 create a triangle they may need to slow down depending on the curve.

Wow, that's a fast answer Smiling I'll dive into it later tonight, I might have screwed something up while building the map.

post notifications rules Smiling make sure the waypoints are in the right order (hover over them and the green lines are next and red previous). otherwise the AI will be mighty confused Smiling
