Just released a new version. Been spending some time on internal parts to support achievements in the future, so there is not that many visible changes in this release. Also the highscore table became a bit large (this morning?)and caused the old version to crash Anyway I'm a bit curious on what you think about the difficulty levels... Any comments or suggestions are welcome. Enjoy! |

I think the difficulty level
I think the difficulty level option was nice, but a bit too unclear which was the easy unless you read the text. I missed a "EASY:", "MEDIUM:" and "HARD:" in the headlines. Or maybe that's just because I'm used to have it that way.
And, dunno it is because it stored old settings or whatever, but in the intermission messages it says the weapon controls are XVCB but on my computer it is ZXCV.

Yes, the old keys are hard coded into the messages, will fix
I waved to and fro with how to present the difficulties, I settled for a non standard way, but that I felt is more in line with the game itself. Will think some more about this one...
Regarding the ships... the one currently on screen is counted as one life. So you can see the visible ships as "extra ships". That is when they go to zero, you get the last ship to fly with.

thanks for the difficulty levels. maybe I finally can get somewhere
it took me like a minute to get what the difficulty selection screen was. and then mostly because I knew it was added in this version. making it that way is cool and all but it doesnt work very well with new players. a simple (Easy), (Medium), (Hard) on the end of the headlines will do. I noticed that I looked at the headlines first and was confused, and I'm pretty used to games
. so the headlines should be clearer and the message will be obvious.
nice polish on the menu. game works great. seemed stretched on my tv on 1280x720 but maybe theres no widescreen support.

Yeah, maybe I went to far on the difficulty settings, everything to set the mood
Doing something about it is on my to do list.
The game should work fine in wide screen resolutions... I use wide screen all the time without stretching artifacts, but you never know with a funky tv

I thought it was pretty obvious about the difficulty levels, but that's probably because I knew they were just that. Maybe you should just change the header to "Select Difficulty". That way you'll keep most of the mood stuff, and people will still know what the hell is going on

I liked the difficulty selection system, but I agree with freelancer that it might be because I knew what was going on having played the game before. The system is fairly obvious to me since most games have the difficulties in that order (easy, medium and hard), but for an outsider it might not be as obvious that you are selecting the difficulty level.

I thought the difficulty select thing was fine, adds a little more to the atmosphere/story.
Medium starts getting pretty difficult in level 4, so I finished it on easy
Starting to feel pretty polished now! Found a few nitpicking things:
* Level 3 briefing: contiue -> continue, "revealed a weakness on our defences" -> "revealed a weakness in our defences"
* Level 5 briefing: precense -> presence, beeing -> being
* While a communiqe is "being transmitted" I would like to be able to press left mouse button to immediately get the full message, instead of skipping straight to the mission (pressing LMB again would do that).
* Had a crash in HUB, while it was at the "checking games on server" stage (after logging in). Don't have much more information than that, so maybe not that useful
Of note is that I have about 400ms ping to Sweden from NZ, and that
my upstream was in pretty heavy use at the time. How stable is it on shoddy connections?

As it seems I'm getting less and less time to further develop the game, but I hope to make a push and have a final version ready before x-mas. We're having another baby on the way in December so it's hard to tell

Thanks! I'll keep you all posted on how things progress. Unfortunately hospitals does not seem to allow for wifi connections
so there could be a few days without me on the site but I guess you'll manage 
Myself will probably have a major case of the keyboard itches and the "newborn baby sleep deprivation syndrome" when I get back so I'll probably ramble a lot and incoherently
