TWTPB on the Internet
I just transformed this thread into a more generic "T.W.T.P.B." on the internet. If you find anything interesting, like a review, movie or something that you don't think we know about. Post it here!
T.W.T.P.B. got a review at cosmosgaming:
Spell of Play's "T.W.T.P.B." is an awesome free shooter that brings difficulty to a whole new level.

This actually almost brought a tear to my hardened coder eyes....

Asskicking!
Really great review, and apparently what we're doing is neither incomprehensible nor unappreciated!

hey it almost brought tears to mine, and I'm not even involved. It's just awesome seeing someone appreciate something kinda simple that much. It gives hope to all of us
However didn't he confuse things? Like I'm sure the game won't be free forever, and I'm sure it will be much nicer looking and better sounding once that happens..

Steven has promised to update the review when the game gets more and more finished.
So you can see it as a review of the current state of the game...

Yey, lots of nice words there! Thanx!
TWTPB On GameTunnel
Game tunnel just reviewed T.W.T.P.B. in their monthly roundup.
It got a Silver Award and a 4th place with a combined score of 7.5. It was up against some really string opponents (Mutliwinia, Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People - Strong Badia) made by high profile indies with real budgets for their games
Best yet is that I got some more points to improve
It got praise for the visuals and music, tight control and that it is easy to pick up. The negative aspects seem to mostly be related to that it is hard. Level 5 anyone
TWTPB is an eye-candy treat, with explosions, glowing enemies, and vibrant colors galore
It has amazing style for it's minimalist aesthetic and backs it up with game play that for the first four levels made me feel like I was a rock star.
Though I read Gametunnel
Though I read Gametunnel religiously, it's obvious to me that none of the reviewers bothered to finish the game, otherwise they would have more to say than "a plain old shooter, done really well". And "it's too hard". And especially, "the story detracts, rather than adds to, the game." That one is particularly ridiculous.
I tell ya, if Braid is going to get drooled on by everyone with a computer hooked up to the internet, TWTPB should get at least a decent fraction of that drool, for many of the same reasons.
- pinback
I guess it's quite "hard" to
I guess it's quite "hard" to finish TWTPB in such a short amount of time. Especially if you approach it as a standard shoot em up
It's so easy to get stuck in your ways and just follow instructions...
Though I must say that I'd really like to have some of that Braid drool coming this way
Unfortunately I have not played Braid myself but it is probably easier to approach it with a more open mind since the core game play is something different. In TWTPB you get a standard shmup approach and then...
Anyway... all I want is to get as many people as possible playing TWTPB, and that GameTunnel review was very positive in many ways
TWTPB on Casual Review
Casual Review have just posted a review of TWTPB. Cool that a casual site picked it up and I also think the review is both fair and positive.
You can also vote for TWTPB there too.
The main complaints is the storyline... kind of cool... if you know what i mean...
Action GoTY
Action GoTY 2008

T.W.T.P.B. is the fifth best indie action game of 2008!
Congrats!
Congrats getting on that list! You deserve it =)
Also, as I am, I tried out two of the other games on the list. Noitu Love 2 and Droid Assault.
I wasn't a big fan of Droid Assault, but somehow got addicted up until the point that I died. It was quite charming, but I couldn't quite handle the view, I would have preferred so see a larger area around my droid, and possibly have more control of where my co-droids went.
Noitu Love 2 was love at first sight for me (pun intended). It plays very much like Mega Man X4, and resembles the Metal Slug-series of games. The only drawback was that the demo was a tad short (but very good) and the sprite resolution was very low. Other than that this game is awesome! Oh, it is a bit easy on the normal setting with max-life, but hey, on hard and with minimum life I imagine it is quite hard.
I really need to get my thumb out of my back side and buy T.W.T.P.B.. especially now that Freelancer took my first place spot on the high score chart.
I'm also thinking of buying Noitu Love 2, but depending on their payment method I might not. I'm still skeptical to buying games as DLC, I've always preferred having it on disc, it just feels more like I own it that way. Hm, oh well..

Defend that record! I
Defend that record! I suspect you will have a fair chance if you get the full version
I also played Droid Assault a while back. Really nice game, good an polished, but I never got really hooked. As you say your spare robots just seem to wander about and get killed.
I need to try Noitu Love 2 and also Everyday Shooter. Cool that Noitu Love seem to be made by another Swedish indie guy and Harvest by Oxeye is no. 4 on the strategy list! Sweden FTW!
I need more time...
Catch 22
It's like life loves playing tricks on you. When I was unemployed I had lots of time to do things, but no money to do them. Now that I have a job I have the money, but no time. I don't understand how people make time for a family and gaming, I can barely fit one in when I'm working. =/
Harvest is really nice too, I tried it a while back and enjoyed it, the only thing I didn't like was that the landscape would shrink/grow infinitely. I prefer fixed sized maps and resources.
Have you had a look at Penumbra? That's also a Swedish indie game made by I think 4 guys from Helsingborg. I've looked at it and it looks pretty nice, although it's not my type of game.

Well... I don't consider
Well... I don't consider myself a gamer, don't think I ever have actually. But I did play more games when I was younger and had more time for it. I guess life happens to all of us...
My dad who is now retired on the other hand spends a good few hours a week gaming. Mostly the CoD series, he even took a trip down to the D-Day beaches in France to go check the locations out irl
Don't start about dads..
It's cool that your dad went on a real life trip inspired by a game (series). Has he always been into computers? Or did you infect him? ;P
My dad was the one that got me into computers, working for IBM and all I guess it wasn't really planner but rather happened. He still plays though, I finally got him to play the X-Com series of games and he really enjoys the first one (and hates the sequels, but who can blame him?). He used to spend his time with Transport Tycoon, I don't know how many times he has beaten that game, but it's a lot. I couldn't never get him to try it on any other setting than easy either. It was more a time waster than a game to him I suppose, something relaxing, if it was harder it probably wouldn't have been relaxing.
I enjoy both types of games, the relaxing kind and the stressful kind. I wonder if it has something to do with age? Or if it's just something individual from the get go.. hmm...

Hard to say if I infected
Hard to say if I infected him. He kind of got me more generally technical interested, he was in the Swedish Navy Intelligence and Communications.
But he did not get a computer at home (if you don't count mine) until a few years ago and then he got into games. He seems to have a passion for historical and simulation types of games, CoD, Silent Hunter and stuff like that. He's not into multiplayer, rather he likes to take his time on the levels and solve them perfectly.
I personally don't like that type of games though I loved CoD Modern Warfare I actually think it's super cool of him to try out such hard core games, I hope that I will be as daring when I grow up
Holy crap we're going off topic now
Only a bit OFT
So, will your next game be #1 on one of those lists? =)

Some quotes:
You are, in essence, at war with Tetris. A neon Tetris - in outer space!
If the references to Star Wars seem obvious already, be prepared. It’s even more obvious in the game itself, from the derivative font of the TWTPB title to the game’s goal of protecting the Empire. - Actually the Star Wars Logo/Font looks nothing like the TWTPB logo... or...
Given a bit of luck it may even be possible to complete the whole thing in under an hour. - I think a lot of luck is needed
Kind of cool to read other peoples opinions of your creation, and I will fix those spelling errors
Didn't you do this?
From the second review: "Purists might be disappointed that the game doesn't offer the option to use a game pad or joystick, but the mouse by itself works quite well."
I'm not a game pad person, but I still somewhat recall you adding support for this? Or was it just an idea?
An the 4th review... I still don't see the likeness to Star Wars... Can anyone else see it? I do however somewhat agree with his criticism of the title of the game, it isn't really catchy. On the other hand it's a fairly good driving force for curious people like me.. besides, there are already enough games called "Ultimate Space Shooter Z" or similar out there, at least you had the guts to avoid that swamp.
Still, nice reviews and good scores.

Yepp, just plug in a gamepad
Yepp, just plug in a gamepad or joystick and it should work. I have tested with both a xbox 360 gamepad and non x-input compatible devices...
The configuration options are not in the menu until you plug one in... so I guess he just did not see anything and assumed there was no support...
And my next game will probably have a more normal name...
