hUb games on Asus eee 701

Maybe not the right forum, but this is something that goes for most hUb games... I've tried running some games (twtpb and mini golf) on my little eee 701. It has a puny 800x480 display and I guess it may fall short of the minimum requirements of the games, and you may not want to do much about this at all Smiling (maybe display capable of 1024x768 should be added to the requirements?)

This is how the latest versions of the games run on my eee:
TWTPB: Says "No directx 9.0 compatible hardware found, do you want to run anyway, may be painfully slow!" and if I hit ok the game actually starts (this was in windowed mode). However, the menu and in-game graphics are corrupted so it's not really playable. Also, the window is larger than the screen, so it's difficult to see what's going on Smiling The last message in the log file is "Failed to create DX with resolution 1024x768".

Mini golf: Says "No directx 9.0 compatible hardware found, do you want to run anyway, may be painfully slow!", on OK it says "Initialization error - unable to create window".

The eee 701 has got a DX 9.0 class craptastic intel gpu (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_GMA#GMA_900). Hardware accelerated pixel shader model 2.0, but lacks hw vertex shaders apparently Smiling So maybe D3DCREATE_HARDWARE_VERTEXPROCESSING could be a problem.

Not saying that you guys should necessarily bother making it run on such a low spec machine, just presenting my results Smiling

Btw, Ufo Pilot II runs fine

Btw, Ufo Pilot II runs fine on the eee Smiling It doesn't support widescreen res, so it's got a black bar on one side of the screen, but otherwise it's good.

well it could be cool to

well it could be cool to make an attempt (at least in mini golf)

EDIT: i tried it and the biggest issue is some gui elements placement and some scrolling issues, maybe some scaling would do it...

Actually I've been looking

Actually I've been looking to get an intel based card to try things out on, since intel cards seem to be the hardest to support from a compatibility point of view.

Maybe the Asus EEE could be a good option? What are your experiences and do you recomend it?

dntoll: cool! yeah, mini

dntoll: cool! yeah, mini golf is probably a better game for the eee than twtpb for instance. Not much fun to play that with the touch pad Smiling

hObbE:
I can definitely recommend the eee for what I use it for, basic internet usage while on the road. Have had great use for it while I've been traveling.

+ No moving parts (ssd), durable
+ Built-in webcam and microphone
+ Powerful enough to do most everyday things, no problem playing tv shows or films.
+ Pretty good reception with the built-in wlan

- Not very powerful, 630mhz cpu. Heavy flash apps can run slowly. HD content is a no-go Smiling
- 3-3.5h battery time, no wonder since the battery is so small.
- 800x480 7" screen Smiling

The one I have, 701 4G, is the first generation... Nowadays there's of course a bunch of new models, some using the more powerful intel atom cpu. They also have larger screens and ssd drives. Not sure how indicative the intel GMA 900 gpu is of intel laptop gpus overall... Seems like it's pretty much as basic as it gets. But for a real low-end spec test it should be pretty good Smiling

I'm happy with my eee, for what it is! I don't really need or want to pay for a full-blown laptop, so for me it was a good choice. Btw, I believe tann also owns a newer model eee!
