Iteration 2 Was just released post your comments here. I would especially like comments on the pacing and style of enemies up to the first boss, since this where most of the visible work has been made. When the game loops it becomes quite a mess /hObbE |

I like it. It looks better than before, and it "feels" better. Sometimes it seems like the enemies move down a bit too fast though, and the smallest "module" is too small in my opinion. Also, could you define "boss"?
Generally I really like the game. It's the kind of game you could spend an eternity with, and still have fun. Like it used to be. It's nice to know someone still develops this kind of games
*edit* There should be an option to turn off the in-game music, I want to be able to listen to my own music while playing.

I absolutely think that the scripted waves are the way to go. As freelancer noted it simply "feels" better, like there is some thought behind what happens.
I like that the waves only "happen once", i.e. if you miss some of the enemies they don't return, so you miss your chance to kill them.
Since the beginning this project has reminded me of 1942/1943 from the arcades, games that I really loved. They both had what appeared to be "scripted" level flows, with distinct beginnings and ends (you landed on an aircraft carrier between each level).
I think the addition of the "glow" effect on the enemies is great!
It's still unclear to me which powerup is which though...

The powers are only temporary and actually the enemies (except one) only drop score powers.
Diamond: Score
Triangle: Weapon
The weapon7shield dropping enemy will probably be replaced with a "Terran dropship" of some kind to make it more distinct.
I have defined a boss as an enemy you must destroy to continue te game. In this version there is only one boss... the one that shoots the beam.
With the "new" enemy wave designs I actually don't like that boss so much, but maybe that's only me...

I noticed another thing when playing today: If you press ESC while playing, you get thrown out of the game. It would be better if it would send you back to the menu.

Noted! Will fix that asap! I guess the Emperor does not like surrendering pilots so the hall of rememberance is out of the question

Some updates on the work in progress!
In iteration 3 you will see a completely new boss that really kicks ass! We'll also put some work in changing the first boss to something cooler.
There will also be more gameplay, new enemy formaions and better balance!
