Iteration 4 Feedback
|
Iteration 4 was just released, with some major changes! Hope you like it! Remember to use the right mouse button to activate the energy abilities. I have started to implement some new Energy gameplay, this is something that absolutely needs more work but I hope you get the general idea of using Energy for controlling some special ability. In this case we have "rate of fire" and "slow motion". In the next iteration I will work more on this concept and test if it should also be connected to the shields in some way... /hObbE |

Iteration 4 Feedback
I like it (as always). The energy implementation is definitely a good start, and new enemies are always welcome.

Music is off by default?

Dang, the first boss that shoots the broad beam is tricky
Just found one weapon upgrade before tackling it though, maybe there's more of them... And I should probably make sure I have 100 energy for the boss as well.
I feel there's a bit more strategy to it now; you pretty much have to nail certain enemies that give you weapon powerups and if you "invest" energy in an enemy you need to try and completely destroy it to get some energy back. I think I like it, definately satisfying to be able to boost the bullet rate! Maybe it could do with some kind randomness to reduce the need to remember certain enemies that has to be killed for certain powerups. Or just make them stand out more or something. Just thinking out loud...

Doh!
The weapondrops will probably be something more easily recognized in the future.
There is only one weapon upgrade per level for now, and that boss can quite easily be defeated when you know it
Glad you like it we'll will keep working!
Any suggestions for special abilities?
Should you have only one special ability at the time? That is when you get a new ability it replaces the old or should you be able to select the currently active ability (via mousewheel for example)?

Just released a minor update. Music is turned on by default and a missing sound was added.

Suggestion for special abilities, hm, what about one that sucks in all the enemy bullets on the screen to circle around the player ship until the right mouse button is released and they shoot off in all directions as bullets from the player?
Could be fun, but it would have to be destructive enough to be useful.
Being able to have more than one ability might be more fun, probably worth trying. If you don't have selectable abilities, will the player be able to get an "old" ability back later by picking something up? That could be some sort of strategy element, what ability the player should try to get for what part of the game. Maybe.

Yeah...
Personaly I'm more for the "keep the abilities" and select what you want to use (interface must be very good though, clear icons for abilities etc)... this will probably be what we'll try out in the next iteration.
Thanx for the suggestions! Now I want to see you on the highscore

OMG the highscore held by Shiva is over 2 800 000!!!
Can that be beaten?!?!

Iteration 4 Feedback
Hehe, I'm not even close to getting into the leaderboards currently
My best effort so far was 910k the other day. I probably have to use slowmo more wisely or something.
Edit: in my latest high score attempt I came across a weird bug. When the "circle enemies" came on screen (the wave just before the first boss) there was some weird thing that looked like a corrupted part of the boss's outer shield flying around. And when the wave of circle enemies and the weird object went off screen the game just kept scrolling through empty space with no boss appearing. It did the same thing at the same location when I started a new game from the main menu. Probably not a super-helpful bug report since I don't have anything resembling repro steps, but anyway

You defintitely need to use both slow motion and rate of fire wisely to maximise your score.
I have heard some reports of similar bugs appearing... I will try to track it down... but as you say not that easy to track down...
