Iteration 5 Feedback

Guess I'll have to start this one too... I'd say this small update brings big improvements. Being able to fire while in slowmo definitely makes that power a lot better (being able to dodge bullets is actually not that useful if you can't actually eliminate the source of those bullets). And new enemy formations are always welcome.

Iteration 5 Feedback

there is two things that have come to my mind the last week.
1. The slowmo, I never even knew it existed.. I thought I found a bug, apparently I accidential released my triggerfinger at some point... and somehow managed to use the special withoug thinking about it. Some "help" point in the menu.. pack-man style would be great
2. The new way of controling the special, to me it dosent work that good. I know that it really improves the slowmo to be able to shoot at the same time, but having to scroll up and down the mousewheel just dosent work for me.. in the heat of the battle, I will forget using it. Id rather have it assigned to a key on the keyboard instead. I know that will stop it from beeing a mouse only game.. but hey Smiling

A change in colors when "level 1" is completed would be great, or something to show that now you did some progress.

Freaking great game!!

Iteration 5 Feedback

Thanx guys!

A help section in the game is definitely needed especially since the game is becoming more and more "complex".

There actually is a keyboard combo for the specials, you can use 'z' and 'x' respectively to what to use. As said a help section would be good Sticking out tongue

We had some bigger plans for this iteration but they sort of fell flat when I and the whole family came down with a bug (a real one that is Sticking out tongue).

I think it is great that it works, since we have made som rather big technical changes in some parts of the game!

Is the energy level stored in a floating-point value? Or are there slight differences in how much a power-up gives you? I noticed my energy level went from 58 to 79, and then to 99.

Iteration 5 Feedback

I like the new music and new waves of enemies Laughing out loud

I think you get 20 energy from each diamond?

users avatar

Iteration 5 Feedback

That's what I thought too. I guess it was a very large value of 20 Sticking out tongue

Iteration 5 Feedback

I noticed a bug while playing it today. After the first wave of these had almost reached the bottom

some yellow dots appeared out of nowhere and damaged my ship, then disappeared (it happened really fast, I don't remember exactly what it looked like). Then, after the next wave (big round ships) was over, the boss (the one with ships shielding him) didn't appear. When I started a new game, he still didn't appear. I had to restart the game.

I got the same bug as freelancer, i.e. the boss didn't appear. This happened three times in a row. The result is that the game just stops working, as there is no way to die.

I also saw the yellow dots at some point.

Thanx for the bug reports! To bad it has not happened anytime for me... I mostly play the game 1-2 times in a row... then switch back to the code...

Did the bug appear after you already played a few/many times? Any idea of how many times?

The energy is displayed in percent... so there is probably a rounding error...

I'm back baby! Nice to be able to play again, and nice to be at the top of the highscore. Eye-wink The game is looking awesome, and I was gonna complain about the scrollwheel changing but the "zx" thing removed that complaint.

So on to other things, it's quite difficult to tell what powerup is active, for later when more powerups are added I think something similar to the OSX menu would work well. Screen: http://www.gusleig.com/sos/wp-content/uploads/2007/01/_images_screenshots_OSX-01.jpg But for now maybe something closer to the ship would help, change it's colour perhaps?

Something that has been bothering me is that the rapid fire powerup is always the active one when the game begins, it would be nicer if the most recently used powerup is the active one.

The 'splosions look fantastic! But I'm still having a hard time telling bullets apart from explosions and enemies, this is especially annoying because I like to dramatically fly through my exploding enemies while screaming "FACE!" out loud.

Also, I preferred the old music.. ^,^ No offence music guy!

So, have you thought about having levels? As in progression, like world 1-1, 1-2 and so on. (No WoW levels TYVM!)

Note: The resolution 1680x1050 would be fantastic to have support for! Maybe it's time to add drop-down lists for this?

Best wishes,
/Malice the magnificent

I usually play at least ten times (I always restart if I lose a life before the first boss), and I'm pretty sure I had played a few times before the bug occurred.

@Malice: I'll beat you eventually Sticking out tongue And yes, something like the OSX menu would be preferable when more powerups are added. I like the new music better though, but I usually play without the game music, so it doesn't really matter to me.

Iteration 5 Feedback

Great to hear from you again Malice and that score is amazing!

Points taken!

I'm thinking of displaying both the energy level (+ health, blue and red bars?) and some indication of current ability. One idea I'm toying with is to change the look of the ship for the different abilities... but this will require some time. A simple icon is probably simpler for now.

I'll second that request. My widescreen display doesn't support 1280x800.

users avatar

Iteration 5 Feedback

1280 x 800 is actually a quite wierd 16:10 resolution that some monitors seem to go for.

I'll add support for 1680x1050 resolution in the next iteration Smiling

4629000  I'll never beat that! Guess I'll have to settle for second place then...

Btw, I noticed another bug (or is it a "feature"?). When you start a new game, the existing powerups aren't removed from the screen.

users avatar

Iteration 5 Feedback

That's a bug Sticking out tongue

and that score is amazing! Seems you have found a really good playing strategy... I guess you use a lot of time warp esp. when the game loops and gets faster?

/hObbE

users avatar

Iteration 5 Feedback

I'll never tell my secret!!!

Just kidding, yes, I use the Time Warp a lot. I've only found a few places where the other powerup is better, an interesting note on this is that time warp becomes less effective on the second loop. The increased amount of damage is more valuable. Naturally, you need god-like instincts. Eye-wink

Don't give upp freelancer, quitters never win as they say. Besides, it's more fun when you have good competition.
