Iteration 13
|
As you may have noticed I13 was just released. Not that many changes actually but the backgrounds make the game feel a whole lot more polished (imho). The current implementation could possibly be hard on your computers, so please let me know if you have any performance problems. I also thing the planets look somewhat wonky Anyways, we appreciate any comments, ideas or suggestions. |

I get no jerkiness on my laptop (GF Go 7600), so I guess it is more of a cpu than gpu issue.

I think the GF8400 is a slower GPU than your 7600 laptop
It feels more like a timerissue
this computer has a Core 2 duo 4400 or something

Finally got around to
Finally got around to playing the new iteration. The backgrounds look awesome. Who drew those space wonders?
Only critisicm I have about them is that the planets look like toys. They appear too close and move too fast to give the illusion of vast size. Place more of them behind most of the clouds, make some of them much smaller and make them move much slower and I guarantee an awesome display of greatness
Also move the smaller ones less than the bigger ones of course.
Otherwise game feels really solid now. I found myself sweaty and on my toes all the way to 18th place
The last boss took forever to kill since I had to use missiles through almost the whole level and didn't have any extra firepower there. Maybe it was intentional but since it wasn't very hard it was just dull waiting for him to die. First I didn't think he took damage at all but I kept on shooting, SOMETHING had to happen eventually and it did
Well great work. Not sure I'm looking forward to the new level after your comment though. I hate bullet-filled levels
Thnx
I agree about the planets, it's also the lighting that looks wonky since it rotates as the planet rotates. It is spjelk that did the great job with the backgrounds.
I also agree about the last boss... it is too easy, you just have to be patient...
It will mostly be the new boss that is inspired by danmaku shooters. So no fear

I played the latest
I played the latest iteration last week, just haven't gotten around to comment until now. The background looks awesome, great job there. I do agree about the fourth boss; it kinda reminds me of the Crysis boss. You just keep shooting until you run out of ammo, and almost scream "WHY WON'T YOU DIE?!" Like you and Solid said, it isn't really because it takes so much time to kill him, but rather that it isn't really challenging (at all).
I also beat my highscore again (3.6 million, yay!)
Btw, will the next iteration be released this week? Will the iterations be handled differently now that it's reached Alpha?
No more major features
The next iteration is coming up on Friday as scheduled. There is no change in the release cycle.
The alpha status is actually not a very big deal... mostly an opportunity to get some attention in the media
It is good to use a vocabulary that people can relate to.
It actually means that there will be no more major features, and what constitutes a major feature is mostly up to me
But it will give us a more clear focus on finishing the game in a somewhat near future.
