Grin

I'm not a big reader of gamasutra but i do skim their daily(!) newsletter for interesting articles. Most of the time they seem to dissapoint me by beeing pretentious and heavily focused on AAA stuff (whatever that means).

Anyways this time my eyes stopped when I saw that there was an article from Swedish developer Grin. Actually quite a big studio (250 ppl) but you hear very little from them so I got curious.

The article itself was actually quite good, while focusing on independent going for AAA stuff, I guess many things are valid also for us smalltimers (and that want to remain smalltimers).

One point is "Give Some Shit Up", and the point is that with any demanding work/career/interest you'll have to give some stuff up. I guess it's all about prioritization, and if you want to build a business creating games games it's going to take a lot of time and energy, and as a consequence you'll have to give things up. If you are not prepared to do this, maybe creating games are not for you...

GRIN Co-Founders On The Hard Road For Independent Developers

It's absolutely a nice read!

I also found a series of interviews where Swedish Gamereactor interviews GRIN CEO Bo Andersson about the company history.
