Iteration 19

Iteration 19 was just released. Things are slowly moving back to normal and I'm hoping to get some more time to finish this project soon. I feel that my inspiration is not at peak and it probably shows in the level and boss design... I feel that the game has not much more to offer so it's probably better to start finising it. Level 9 will probably be the last one, and it will probably take an iteration or two to get the final boss in place. There is also some work to do on the story and the actual end of the game. Feel free to make any comments or suggestions. Enjoy! |

Not that I can even reach the 8th boss
Great work, I havent played since dreamhack and it is a really fun game! Much thanks to the high difficulty.
I did not like the long boss health meter. I think it should be much shorter and not span the entire screen.

Heh, I still haven't beaten the lvl6 boss. Maybe that's due to the fact that I have to play through the entire game just to practice on it a few time, and I currently don't have that much time to spare
Checkpoints
Yeah... I'm actually thinking of some kind of "checkpoints" system. Basically if you have completed a level you should be able to start the game on that level.
Mostly since the game is pretty hard and I'd really like for someone to complete it

Checkpoints
So... I've been thinking about the checkpoints and this is what I have come up with.
When reaching a boss a checkpoint counter will be increased. In subsequent play sessions you can select to spend a count restarting on that boss.
This way you'll have to employ some strategy when using the checkpoints and not just continue and continue.
Maybe I'm overcomplicating things... what do you think?

So... Each boss gives you one "point". Would continuing on, say, the level 4 boss cost 1 or 4 points?

I'm thinking that all continues will cost 1 point. Could be interesting to expermient with both rewards and cost of continues though...
I think I need to make some implementation of this

Hm. With my trainer you can go to any level, but then you can't get any score. That'd reduce the low-level-time quite a bit
Though I maybe shouldn't have the trainer public if it interferes with functions that you can pay for. At the other hand I've disabled the scoring with it like i said.
Anyway, I'm tired now and won't have much time to develop/update things from now on.
From one thing to a completely other: the game already downloads the highscore chart at startup (?) - wouldn't it be easy to verify you got the latest iteration too? In case you didn't start the game from the hub.

I don't think the trainer
I don't think the trainer will interfere with this feature. There is definitely a difference with an integrated game feature and a separate trainer (and there is no scoring).
And as you say... you'll have to keep up with the iterations
Sure the game could check if it is the latest version... i don't see the need for it right now though
As a side note I have completed the "continue" feature now and it will be shipped in the next iteration. Basically you earn "jumps" by completing levels and you then spend a jump going to a level you have completed. The first level is ofcourse free.

yeah... I have a wysiwyg editor for all site input on my todolist, but as you said... to many thing to do.

I updated my trainer ( http://www.spellofplay.com/groups/community/viewgrp?groupID=23 ) so I checked the last level.
How on earth do you guys do those levels without any help? I needed godmode to get enough time to check the nipple boss before I could even stand a chance without it ^^
Anyway... cool level. And thrilling that the last level is almost here!

Update on I20
Iteration 20 is comming along nicely and I'm confident that this will be the official beta release. I see no real new features that need be added, though there definitely will be tweaks, polish and balancing.
I have even got around to adding the "Credits" screen and you can now actually finish the game... so there is an end to it... not just looping forever...
and there will probably be a price raise in this release, so consider registering while it's cheap.

It 20, interesting! I guess the secret acronym T.W.T.P.B will be solved at last?
A tweak: when you use the scroll wheel, I think it feels like it goes in the wrong direction. Maybe in game, but at least in the highscore list (compare the scrolling on a web browser page).
I guess there won't be much more updating of addresses in my trainer after it 20 then. Maybe I'll even take some time to make the trainer functionality much better, but I got loads of schoolwork so I guess it'll take some time if I ever get to do it

There is definitely a number of clues towards the end of the game regarding the acronym... but it will not be spelled out directly...
Also... the end of the game is probably not what you think it will be... mo ha ha ha
