Nintendo DS or Sony PSP
|
I have realized that I need to play more games. Also I don't have the time to really sit down and play so I got thinking that maybe a portable gaming device would be cool. Then I can utilize many smaller snippets of time instead of devoting long hours. The last time I owned a portable was my old Game & Watch Donkey Kong JR. That was a great game and the only portable I have ever owned. Even my mum considered herself a gamer in those days. My sister and she even started playing the game upside down to get more of a challenge. Alas my hot tempered sister threw the game in the wall in frustration Anyway I have not paid any attention to the portable scene in a few years but I guess it it pretty much down to getting a Nintendo DS or a Sony PSP. Price is about the same, the PSP is more techy but the DS has the touch screen advantage and is compatible with Gameboy Advance games. Right now I'm leaning towards the DS... but I really don't know. If you got any experiences or suggestions I'd really like to know... |

, and that was it for the poor fellow...
Go with the DS
I would totally go for the DS! The old Nintendo feel takes the price all the way, and to be able to play Zelda: A Link to the Past on the little fellah is all I would need to make that decision

I've only played a PSP for an hour or something but it had a much better grip. The touch-interface and dualscreen gives you some really fresh experiences though. I went for the DS and some games are really great. It works best when you play touch-based games. D-pad + button-games make my hands hurt bad after 10 minutes.. maybe its just me.

Ergonomics
hmmm... I probably should go to a store and test some out... I guess ergonomics really is an issue when it comes to handhelds.
I have heard that the DS has much better battery lifetime? It would truly be the sux to go for a gaming session only to discover that the batteries are dead...
And the DS does have a good line up of games...
I own both the DS and the
I own both the DS and the PSP, and I'd say that you should go with the DS. Sure, the quality control from Sony is a lot better (regarding games), which means that the games are overall better, while most games for the DS are -crap-. Nintendo lets anything through. This is true for both the DS and the Wii.
However... The most brilliant games are the ones that Nintendo develop themself, not by some third-part developers. These games, like New Super Mario Bros, Zelda and Mario Kart, are what makes the DS the better choice. The best games for the PSP simply can't compete with the best games for the DS.
Yes, most people seem to
Yes, most people seem to advice me to get the DS. Quite strange also that Nintendo does not seem to get any good 3rd party devs on the train (I guess there are a few exceptions, like the guys who made metroid on the GC)
Thanx for your comments!
DS,. and r4 !
I have a DS and an R4 that lets me use a microSD card to download software from a PC,. I got it to do some homebrew dev,. and for stuff like this [ http://nitrotracker.tobw.net/ ] lets me compose .xm modules on the train! I have however taken to d/l pirated roms and playing them as well,. I know it is wrong to steal, however I simple would not be able to buy them,. and I don't really play them as much as test them to see what types of game are around,. as I build my own games too,. I would recoment this set up.
Yeah, I heard about the R4.
Yeah, I heard about the R4. It's really cool that you can use it to make some home brew stuff. I'm all for home brewing (I actually home brew beer also), and it would be cool to do some developing on a new platform.
I have quite surely decided on a DS... now I'm only waiting for the right moment to go buy one
